A Note from the Director

Amanda Jeffery

What makes us different? We are more than a dance studio…we are a family. Our students make friendships that will last a lifetime. We also focus on teaching the whole student; giving them life skills such as dedication, determination & perseverance that will help them to succeed both now and for the rest of their lives.

Our friendly, professional staff nurture students to flourish & become passionate and confident dancers:

  • Boost your child’s self esteem
  • Build your child’s self-discipline
  • Develop social skills and meet new friends
  • Have fun!

We try to make all of our students feel special, while providing them with a love of dance. We provide a positive, safe and encouraging environment for students to grow. We do this in part by ensuring that our music, movement and costume choices are always age appropriate and modest.

Our Competitive Dance Teams allow students to take their learning to the next level. We select local competitions that provide a positive environment for our students, where they will be able to enhance their skills, and get feedback for improvement.

We offer two ways to register; either for the full dance season (September through June), or by session (Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer). Since you are not forced to register for an entire year, your child can register for the sessions that are convenient to them. This enables them to also try other activities, such as soccer or swimming. Dance is a great way to stay active, increase flexibility, and develop healthy fitness habits.

You will love watching your child twirling around the room, beaming with joy and blossoming with confidence. Who knows…your child may inspire you to take a dance class of your own!

Keep Dancing!

Amanda Jeffery, BFA - Owner/Artistic Director

Amanda Jeffery, Owner and Artistic Director

Miss Amanda started taking dance lessons at the age of three because she was shy, and her mother thought it would be a good way to encourage her to come out of her shell.  Over the years, her training has included Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Tap, Modern, Theatre, Yoga and Pilates. Amanda has also taken workshops in Indian, Tango, Afro/Caribbean, Hip Hop and Gymnastics.  She knew from an early age that she wanted to one day own a dance studio, and was often known to be doodling logos or studio layouts.  Amanda has been teaching dance for more than 20 years, and truly enjoys working with children.

Amanda graduated from York University in Toronto with an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance in 2000. Her studies there included technique classes in Limon and Graham based modern classes, and RAD based Ballet classes. She also studied Anatomy Training for Dance Injury Prevention and Care, Pedagogical training, and training in the history of classical, modern and ethnic dance.

Amanda was a member of Pegasus Players Dance Theatre Group, which toured England in 1992, performing and conducting workshops for children. They also performed at Prudhommes Wet and Wild, the Grape and Wine Festival, the Grimsby Santa Claus Parade and many other local festivals. In 1995 Amanda won Grimsby Secondary School's OAC Theatre Arts Award and scholarship.

She co-choreographed "Dragonflies" with Aimee Ward for York Dances in 1998. She also choreographed "Resurrecting Limbo" for Dance Innovations in 2000, which was a collaboration between 13 choreographers. In 2000, Amanda also performed in "Ever Falling Home" at the Betty Oliphant Theatre, in Toronto.

Amanda has taught workshops for both the Toronto and Hamilton Boards of Education.  She also taught at the Ancaster Rotary Centre and the Sir Allan MacNab Recreation Centre. She is certified in First Aid/CPR with the St. John Ambulance.

Always willing to try something new, Alyssa has developed a versatile portfolio with experience in competitions, classrooms, theatres and on movie sets. She can be seen on stages and screens across Canada, as well as sitting on the other side creating, curating and developing new work.  Recently creating, choreographing and casting projects such as Communal Solace – which was featured in the 2017 Frostbites Festival and Dusk Dances 2017, and the Geoff Hudson Band's latest music video Big Old Angry Sea, Alyssa is constantly working in her field of dance and theatre. Her passion for musical theatre, allowed her the opportunity to choreograph over fifteen musicals so far during her career, including the Canadian Premier of Sideshow the Musical.  Alyssa was chosen to represent contemporary dance in the I Am An Artist campaign, an initiative created by the Hamilton Arts Council, in which 30 banners were installed in the city to celebrate the diversity of Hamilton's Artistic Community.  Alyssa is a certified Rhythm Works instructor, and a proud member of the Professional Adjudicators Alliance.  Alyssa's creativity is ever reaching, crafting competitive and performance pieces for soloists and groups as well as investing in her community. Alyssa believes in helping youth grow confidence through dance.

What do you love about dance? Why did you choose a career in dance?  Dancing for me is a complete connection between body, mind and spirit. I feel completely in the moment when I dance. For me, dance often is my best form of communication. I remember when I was 16 years old and my beloved childhood instructor told me we would be creating our own choreography to teach and share with the rest of the class. It was only something small, like two counts of eight, but I can still recall the feeling of pride I had in my heart when I left that day. I love sharing dance with people in my life, and I am so thankful for each opportunity I get to do so.

Emily Adler - Tudor

Hi, my name is Emily Adler. I’m in my last year of Honours Neuroscience and Linguistics at McMaster University. I spend a lot of time studying how the brain works, how we think, and how we speak. When I’m not reading, writing papers, or doing assignments, I love to spend time with my family; especially my golden retriever, Theodore (we call him Theo for short). Some of my favourite things to do in my spare time are to take Theo on car rides, cook, bake, and volunteer with the best people; kids! In the next few years I hope to do my Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology so I can continue to do my favourite thing: help people learn to love reading and writing, and speak with confidence. As Dr. Seuss once said, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

Erin Kwiatkowski - Office Manager (aka Amanda's Assistant)

Dani LeitisDani joined our NJADS family in 2015 as a dance mom when her and her daughter joined our Dance With Me Class. Dani comes to us with a background in broadcast and communications. Formerly the Digital Media Manager for the Diocese of Hamilton as well as a youth minister, Dani saw there was a need to help all kids feel welcome and loved. Dani felt over the years that the values of our studio and the relationships her and her family built with the staff and students proved Not Just Another Dance Studio does just that. Upon the opening of our new location in Ancaster in 2019, Dani jumped at the chance to join our staff as the new Administrative Assistant for our Ancaster location. You can reach Dani at our Ancaster location by calling 289-445-1167 or email her with any questions

She’s always felt that the bonds between the dancers and staff was an important value that kept their family coming back!

Jodi Gilchrist - Reception

Jess Werkman - Receptionist

Jessica joined our NJADS team as a receptionist in September 2019. She loves watching all the students greet each of the teachers and assistants with such enthusiasm and seeing the bonds that form with the other students. Although Jessica has not personally had any dance experience, watching the students dance is very inspiring and may just take a class or two herself here and there! Jessica absolutely loves the studio environment and is already building relationships with staff and students.  Jess also works at Senses Hair Salon on Upper James Street in Hamilton as a stylist. She is available at the front desk in our Hamilton location to further assist with any questions or concerns you may have!

NJADS Assistant Teacher Training Program -

In 2011 we established the NJADS Teacher Training Program to mentor and train our senior students to become dance instructors.  Students participating in this program benefit from practical experience while assisting with recreational dance classes for our younger students ages 2-6 years old.  This program prepares our students with hand on-experience, as well as an academic perspective of dance.  Dancers in our Assistant Teacher Training Program continue personal dance classes with the studio, and are role models for the NJADS Family.

Marella Robinson - Assistant Teacher

Marella began dancing with us in 2010.  She has trained in Ballet/Lyrical, Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop and Musical Theatre, and always gives 100% in class.  Her eccentric personality keeps things interesting in class.  She is often seen around the studio bending herself into strange shapes.  She joined our Jazz Competition Team in 2015, and added a contemporary solo in 2016.  In June 2017 she played the role of Dorothy in our production of The Wizard of Oz. In September 2017 she started training in our NJADS Teacher Training Program.  Meshclockla!

Abby Kwiatkowski - Assistant Teacher

Abigail started dancing with Not Just Another Dance Studio in 2010 because she was clumsy, and was hoping to gain grace and poise.  For the first few years she did not participate in recital, as her mom wanted to avoid the pressures commonly thought of being associated with recitals.  Once she integrated into the NJADS family, she realized that our aim was to provide a recital experience that was positive and stress free.  She now loves being on the stage and is quite expressive and theatrical (even in her everyday life!)  She is known around the studio as being carefree and a little wacky (also known as unique!).  The NJADS environment has allowed her to feel comfortable making relationships that are sincere.  In June 2017 Abby played the role of the Wicked Witch of the West in our production of The Wizard of Oz.  Abby is on our Jazz, Lyrical, Tap, and Musical Theatre teams and joined our NJADS Teacher Training Program in 2017.

Gabriella Mugheddu - Assistant Teacher

Gabriella Mugheddu Star Beat 2018Gabriella was two and a half when she started dancing at Not Just Another Dance Studio.  She was hesitant to join class, and stuggled with performing for groups (we still joke about how she refused to go on stage at her first recital and was in tears).  Now try and drag her off the stage!  She has blossomed into a beautiful dancer, and competes on our Intermediate Jazz and Junior Lyrical Teams, as well as a Lyrical solo.  She has won many special awards for her expressive personality on stage, including her most recent award "Emotional Execution" which she received at Star Beat Dance Champions Burlington in 2018 for her Lyrcal Solo "What a Wonderful World".  You can tell she truly loves dance when you watch her perform.  Gabriella considers many of the NJADS dancers her "Sisters by Choice" and has made lasting friendships.  Throughout the years, she has trained in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical and Contemporary.  She joined our NJADS Teacher Training Program in 2017.

Olivia Muretic - Assistant Teacher

Olivia has been dancing with our dance family since 2009, when she started in ballet. She has loved dancing with us because she has always felt the teachers "are just so nice" and she loves to be able to move around and excercise while having fun! Her most memorable performance was her first competition jazz performance in 2016. She danced to "Dear Future Husband" and just felt so happy to be on our competitive dance team.  It was a bonus that she loved the choreography as well! Jazz is Miss Olivia's prefered style and in 2019 she got her first solo jazz performance called Word Up. We are thrilled to have the "just so nice" Miss Olivia as one of our Assistant Teachers in 2019, as she herself inspires many of our young dancers!

Stefanie Wheeler - Assistant Teacher

Stefanie has been dancing since the age of three. Over the years Stefanie has done jazz, lyrical and ballet. She has always loved dance because she can express herself through it and she finds it lots of fun. Her favourites for this expression are lyrical and ballet. In 2017 she won Retro Revival at Showburst for her groups' "Spice Girls" performance. Daniella loves how dance gives her a chance to express herself and finds it lots of fun. She loves teaching other kids to help them to see just how fun dance can be. Daniella dreams of pursuing dance as a career and despite favouring Jazz she hopes to one day be able to do pointe as well! Miss Daniella has the blood of an artist, filling her free time with dance and drawing or sketching.

Parent Testimonials

"In the past, I have recommended NJADS to family and friends looking for all the aspects of the higher priced studios (i.e. quality, teaching, fancy recital costumes, dance photos) at a family-friendly price. My 3 daughters look forward to their dance classes. They have made friends and have also been given leadership opportunities. I was also impressed early on, when my young daughter came home using dance terms. It is clear Miss Amanda cares about her students and is dedicated to running a quality studio." Jessica M, 2011

"Both of my daughters have been dancing with NJADS for many years, my oldest since Amanda opened her doors! We love the relaxed atmosphere of the studio. Amanda, along with the other instructors, Alyssa and Stephanie are fantastic! The kids learn the art of dance without the pressures of some competitive studios. They enjoy themselves, work hard and are proud of what they accomplish. The annual recital, along with the Christmas Showcase gives them a chance to perform for their families and friends which helps to build their confidence. Amanda has recently added a Junior and Senior Competitive Team which my daughter was a part of and absolutely loved. Thanks for all the years of dedication and hard work Amanda!" Christy S, 2012

"After having a tried a few other options, dancing with Amanda and her team has been our most successful experience to date! Love the relaxed, fun, friendly and encouraging atmosphere that is second to none." Nancy N, 2012

"I just wanted to reach out and thank you personally for a great year. I have seen Carmen gain so much confidence and have so much fun and I must confess, I was very trepidatious about getting her involved in the "dance" subculture. This has been a tremendous experience and we're looking forward to coming back in July to try ballet on for size." Janice C, 2013

"I can't say enough great things about this studio. Amanda is an excellent teacher, and my daughter loved being in her class. The studio is clean and bright, and very easy to get to which makes it easy to get your child to lessons. I HIGHLY recommend Not Just Another Dance Studio!" Christina M, 2013

"Affordable, fun and creative dance classes. My daughter has been with NJADS for seven years and loves it more every year. The classes have good structure and have given my daughter a solid foundation in three types of dance. But at the same... time, they allow her to be creative, wear what she likes and have fun. The recreational competitive teams also give her a chance to be part of a team, perform in front of judges and have a big sense of accomplishment without being too serious or competitive. I highly recommend Not Just Another Dance Studio." Joanna F, 2013

"My daughter has been dancing with NJADS since around 2009. Amanda and her staff, along with their student assistants, have created a very positive, friendly, family oriented environment where students and parents alike are made to feel welcome. The fees are very affordable and Amanda provides payment options that would suit any families needs. We love this studio and would recommend it to everyone! Great for experienced dancers as well as beginners.... little ones love the girls and thrive in their classes. We would not dance anywhere else!!!" Erin K, 2014

"Personalized for each child to build on their strengths and help them grow! My daughter has developed such poise, confidence, fitness, and has so much fun at the same time! She has found her 'thing' - in an environment that is completely supportive and encouraging."  Carolyn, 2014

"My daughter has been dancing with this studio since she was 18 months old, starting with the Dance with Me classes. She's excited to start her third season now in ballet and tap and I'm excited to start the DWM with my son! All the instructors are excellent and they provide a structured but fun and laid back atmosphere where the kids can learn the dance techniques while having a blast and making some amazing friends. I'm so happy to have become part of the Not Just Another Dance Studio family!" Jodi, 2015

"My daughter has been dancing at NJADS for over a year now and we have loved every minute! The teachers are fantastic and they really nurture the children's interests and talents. The studio has a relaxed, laid back atmosphere which is very conducive to the children's growth, both personally and physically! Both my daughters now dance at Not Just Another Dance Studio and I am also enrolled in a class for September...we are so proud to be a part of the NJADS family! We wouldn't think of going anywhere else!"  Kelly, 2015

"Personalized for each child to build on their strengths and help them grow! My daughter has developed such poise, confidence, fitness, and has so much fun at the same time! She has found her 'thing' - in an environment that is completely supportive and encouraging."  Shari, 2016

"Olivia absolutely loves dancing.  We had tried a couple dance studios before her going to NJADS, and the passion wasn't there. She always felt out of place and wasn't happy.  I knew she loved dancing and she could have really good technique with the right teachers, but I could never get her into her comfort zone.  Since she's been at NJADS, I can't believe the difference in her. She is excited for all of her dance classes and absolutely loves both you and Miss Aysha. She aspires to dance for a very long time and to perfect everything she does.  When she's not at the studio, she's dancing at home, with her friends, in the car, when we're shopping, literally everywhere. And when she's not dancing, she's talking about dance or watching videos and creating her own choreography. This studio has inspired her more than you'll ever know and I'm so happy for this because she is so happy.  Thanks for all you've done for her."  Shannon, 2017

"NJADS has given my children more than just dance skills. My kids love going and have grown so much with the help of the teachers. They are more social, adventurous and confident." Parent of current student, 2018 Feedback survey.

"We love your studio so much. It's not who has the latest and greatest and the best of the best. When my daughter first started last summer we got a great feeling about your studio from just walking in. It's not full of negative cliques of people..everyone is there for their children not to bad talk others. Great job keeping a positive atmosphere and a great place for everyone!  Your studio, yourself and your dance teachers have sparked something in my daughter.  She has a new skip to her walk and a new confidence that I truly thank you for.  She cannot wait to get on stage to perform.  As a mother, it's just so beautiful to watch.  Thank you again for all you do!"   Trish M, 2019
